Brandon Leblanc of Texas Evening Entrepreneurs Talks About His Group

Where are you from originally?



I was born in New Orleans, but I spent the first few years of my life in the Middle East(Egypt, UAE). I moved the Dallas area in the 6th grade.





What university did you go to?



I went to the University of Texas, and I am back there now getting my MBA.





What brought you to Austin?



School, and then I just couldn’t find a compelling reason to leave.





What is your passion and strength?



Providing services or products that add value to people’s lives in forum that is an integral part of its community.





What need does it fulfill?



For me it fulfills the need to see the results of my work. To feel like I did something productive and beneficial at the end of the day.





What exactly do you bring to startups?



I’m still working on that. My natural bent is creative solutions to problems or identifying a void in a market. But I am building the skills to implement all the moving parts to an idea.





What type of startup would benefit from your strengths?



Those that need an outside perspective. Someone who can understand what they are trying to do, but may not be married to the way they are going about it.





What was the most challenging aspect of starting up a business?



I wish I had a good answer to this but I don’t.





What advice do you have for entrepreneurs?



Research. Everthing.





What Austin-based resource have you found to be the most helpful and why?



So far grad school, and taking the opportunity to work with startups through educational partnerships.



I am in the part time program, which means I am working full time while I go to school. In lieu of internships we have the opportunity to work on ENHANCE projects. These are actual projects for actual companies that the grad students work on and present findings to the company. Most of these are found through University staff and are from larger companies.



As a member and now President of the Texas Evening Entrepreneurs I have been involved in recruiting projects from small businesses in the Austin area. It allows us to work on something entrepreneurial, and provides small business owners a team of 3-5 intelligent people to work on an issue they are facing for free.

3D TV dengan Lensa Lenticular

Teknologi 3D selalu diidentikkan dengan kacamata 3D untuk menontonnya. Tapi di masa mendatang kacamata 3D sepertinya akan ditinggalkan oleh produsen 3D TV. Vestel, pembuat TV terbesar di Eropa baru-baru ini memamerkan 3D TV dengan layar 46 inci lensa lenticular, yang memungkinkan kita menontonnya tanpa menggunakan kacamata 3D.

Juru bicara dari pihak Vestel mengatakan bahwa TV 3D tersebut bakal mulai dipasarkan di Eropa mulai awal tahun 2011.

3D TV dengan lensa lenticular ini sudah tersedia, tapi hanya untuk jumlah yang sangat terbatas. Sebuah 3D TV yang berukuran 56 inci, yang sudah dikembangkan dan bekerjasama dengan Philips ini nantinya akan berharga sebesar Euro 40.000.

Menurut Maarteen Tobias, dirut dari Dimenco. 3D TV tanpa kacamata 3D ini akan diluncurkan sesegera mungkin. Karena Dimenco akan segera merilis 3D TV dengan layar monitor berukuran 52 inci dalam beberapa bulan ke depan.

Wah teknologi sepertinya semakin pesat saja. Lama-lama TV non 3D bakal seperti TV hitam putih yang sudah usang.

Aplikasi Twitter untuk iPad

Kabar baik bagi pengguna iPad, karena Twitter meluncurkan aplikasi khusus untuk iPad. Aplikasi ini tak jauh berbeda dengan Twitter untuk platform lainnya seperti aplikasi Twitter di Blackberry.

Aplikasi Twitter for iPad memungkinkan pengguna untuk menerima dan mengirimkan pesan laiknya mereka sedang membuka situs Twitter.com di PC. Bedanya, pengguna Twitter for iPad ini bisa menggunakannya dengan menyentuh menu-menu di Twitter for iPad.

Aplikasi tersebut bisa diunduh/download melalui Apple App Store secara gratis. "Tergantung pada konten, Anda akan melihat video, foto, atau mungkin berita, atau Tweet lainnya," tulis Twitter dalam blognya.

Aplikasi ini memanfaatkan antarmuka sentuh iPad, membiarkan Anda memindahkan banyak informasi dengan lancar dan cepat - tanpa perlu membuka dan menutup jendela atau klik tombol.

Twitter hingga saat ini mengklaim telah memiliki sekitar 145 juta pengguna. Dan angka tersebut hanya pengguna Twitter desktop. Sedangkan pengguna Twitter mobile diperkirakan lebih besar lagi.

Selain itu, CEO Twitter, Evan Williams, mengungkapkan hingga saat ini terdapat lebih dari 300.000 aplikasi pihak ketiga yang telah dikembangkan untuk layanan twitter.

Terkait akses Twitter melalui perangkat mobile, Williams mengatakan jika pengguna Twitter melalui perangkat mobile meningkat sekira 62 persen sejak pertengahan April lalu. Bahkan 16 persen di antaranya mendaftar menjadi anggota baru Twitter melalui ponsel. Angka ini naik sekitar lima persen pada April lalu.
